Brett's mother writes

"Brett was a star volleyball player his 12th grade year of high school. He won all kinds of honors (MVP of the league, All-CIF 1st Team). He was featured in Volleyball Magazine for his skill and 39 inch vertical jump. He was on a club team that took 2nd place in the nation at the US Junior Olympics Championships.

From high school he was recruited by University of California at Irvine to be on their team and they almost won the national championship – finishing 3rd in the nation his freshman year.
