Employment Benefits

Full and part-time employees at CHKD Health System can select from a wide range of health insurance and benefit options including medical, dental and vision.

Holidays

CHKD Health System recognizes six holidays during the year. Employees scheduled to work on a CHKD-designated holiday will be paid at a rate equal to time and one-half of his or her hourly rate. And employees who do work a holiday are eligible to take a paid day off within 30 days of that designated holiday.

The six holidays CHKD Health System observes are:

  • New Year's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

If a holiday falls on a Saturday, it will be observed on Friday; if it falls on a Sunday, it will be observed on Monday.

Paid Time Off (or paid annual leave)

Employees can use their paid annual leave for personal reasons, including vacation, illness, doctor's appointments, etc. All full- and part-time employees start earning PAL on their first day of work. The amount of PAL you accrue in one pay period depends on your length of service and your job classification. Employees can begin using their PAL after 90 calendar days of employment. For the first three instances that an employee is sick, that time is deducted from their PAL bank. On the fourth instance and any instances thereafter, the time is deducted from their sick bank. For those employees who have 240 or more hours in their sick bank, they may deduct their first instance of sick time from that bank.

Tax Sheltered Savings and Matching Plan

Through VALIC Retirement Plan Specialists, CHKD Health System offers its employees (age 21 and over) the opportunity to participate in a tax sheltered savings and matching plan. The Health System will match up to 6 percent of your base pay. The match will be $.50 for each $1 the employee contributes. Employees can access their money upon retirement, when they leave the organization, during times of financial hardship or upon full disability or death. CHKD has three on-site VALIC representatives who meet individually with employees to counsel them on available retirement savings options.

Tuition Reimbursement

CHKD encourages employees to complete or continue any education that relates to their job and offers tuition reimbursement for qualified employees. Any full- or part-time employee is eligible for tuition reimbursement after they've completed their 90-day introductory period. Full-time employees are eligible for 100% tuition reimbursement up to $2,000, and part-time employees are eligible for 50 percent reimbursement up to $1,000. Their chosen school or university must be approved by human resources and they must earn a grade of C or better for undergraduate work and a grade of B or better for graduate work to qualify for the reimbursement.

Short and Long-term Disability

In addition to CHKD's PAL/Sick plan, the Health System also offers short- and long-term disability for full-time employees.

Life insurance of one time the base salary is available at no charge to all CHKD employees to provide financial assistance to surviving family members in the case of an employee's death.
