Three CHKD Doctors Named Health Care Heroes
Of only 13 doctors named 2012 Health Care Heroes by Inside Business magazine, three of them practice at CHKD. Pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist Jean Shelton (pictured) and neonatologists Thomas Bass and Edward Karotkin were honored for their contributions to the health of children. Doctors were nominated by members of the community.

Food Allergies Can Be Deadly
The recent death of a Richmond-area child from eating a peanut was tragic. Peanut allergy in children is one of the most common causes of anaphylaxis, a medical emergency that requires immediate treatment with an epinephrine injector, followed by a trip to the ER. Dr. Michelle Clayton Honored with National Award
Child abuse pediatrician Michelle Clayton has received the 2012 Commissioner’s Award for Virginia from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration on Children, Youth and Families. Dr. Clayton was nominated by Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell’s office for making the Commonwealth of Virginia a safer place for children.
